Rated 0 out of 5$43.99THIS VINTAGE HAS PRODUCED A PINOT NOIR DISPLAYING OPULENT RICH AROMATICS; LUSH DARK FRUITS OF THE FOREST DOMINATE THE AROMA AND THESE ARE UNDERPINNED BY SWEET BROWN SPICE NOTES. THE WINE DISPLAYS LOVELY ELEGANCE AND FLOW WITH STRIKING PRECISION AND CLARITY. ON THE PALATE IT KICKS OFF WITH A PLUSH DENSE FRUIT OF THE FOREST ENTRY, THIS PLUSHNESS THEN MOVES BEAUTIFULLY INTO THE MID PALATE, AFTER WHICH FINE ELEGANT TEXTURAL TANNINS FRAME FRUIT AND ACIDITY ON A LENGTHY FINISH.

TAYLORS SHIRAZ 750ML
Rated 0 out of 5$16.99Think Clare Valley and the name Taylors will roll off the tongue. In fact think top Aussie red producers and the name Taylors will pop up. It’s why they’re a member of the Australia’s First Families of Wine, the 12 founding family owned wineries across the ditch, and why for as long as we can remember this has been one of the most reliable, bang for your buck labels.
We reckon Taylors must be a little bit mad putting quality rich, lucious, medium to full bodied Shiraz under such a moderately priced label. They win an insane number of Gold medals around the globe every vintage – this 2018 release is out of the traps and already a Gold at NZ’s largest wine comp, the NZ International Wine Show.
One of (if not THE) most awarded Aussie Shiraz on the circuit over the years. Seriously, this label has an addiction to the bling!
Pair this style red with big red meat dishes – steaks, sausages, spicy pizzas or go with the Taylor’s recommendation of garlicy Kangaroo meatballs – if you can get your hands on a pair!

ELEPHANT HILL SYRAH HB 750ML
Rated 0 out of 5$31.99Elephant Hill are a Hawke’s Bay producer with class and style. They set the bar sky high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boast one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ! Elephant Hill Syrah
Using fruit sourced from their Gimblett, Bridge Pa and spectacular Te Awanga vineyards right on the Hawke’s Bay coastline, using entirely hand picked fruit, aged 18 months in French oak. In their own words the Elephant crew call this “luscious and elegant, a true Elephant Hill Syrah.“.
Drink it now or chuck it in your cellar and let it develop over the next ten years. If you’re in the Bay swing by this place (not long ago voted NZ’s top winery restaurant in Cuisine magazine) and grab a feed paired with these world class wines. They highly recommend a glass of this Syrah with Hereford fillet, artichoke, duck liver palate and truffle porcini crumb. Divine!

CRAGGY RANGE SYRAH GIM GV 750ML
Rated 0 out of 5$32.99Produced from the gravelly soils of the Gimblett Gravels, this distinct Syrah shows an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics with lushness and elegance on the palate.
The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand around 150 years ago.
Gimblett Gravels is a designation encompassing a centuries old dried river bed in Hawke’s Bay that is believed to be the first in the New World where the ultimate boundary is defined by a distinct soil type. The vines are planted in the stoniest parts of the vineyard to a heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand in the 1840s.
TASTING NOTE
Deepest red with a vibrant purple hue. Beautiful aromatics of violet, dark rose, freshly cracked pepper and boysenberry. Wonderful fruit purity on the palate balanced with precise acidity and fine, dusty tannins for a long, elegant finish. -
CHURCH ROAD HB SYRAH 750ML
Rated 0 out of 5$18.99Syrah is fast becoming the star of the Hawke’s Bay wine scene and this Church Road Syrah has been absolutely nailing it over the last few years as one of the top Syrahs around under $20.
You might remember the 2015 vintage took out the “Best Red Wine Buy of the Year” in Michael Cooper’s Wine Buyers Guide for 2017 – other Syrah producers in the region must be seriously scratching their heads wondering how they do it at such a keen price! The ’16 made an appearance in Cuisine magazine’s 2018 Syrah tasting, scored 4 Stars & Best Buy. The 2017 made the shortlist again for Michael Cooper’s Best Red Wine Buy of the Year for 2019.
A silky, supple red with a touch of spice that will leave you grabbing a second glass in a flash! This is the style of red to be pairing with cuts of good old Kiwi lamb and game meats like duck and venison.
