Pepperjack Cabernet Sauvignon is a Barossa label that needs little introduction. It’s got a cult following with the Aussie red hardcore and produced by a winery with a massive rep (Saltrams) Pepperjack has been a firm favourite on both sides of the ditch for a number of years.

Coonawarra is best known for its great Cabernet and for the money this little fire bird is, well, smoking hot! It’s a big, dark, inky Cabernet full of spicy blackcurrant and berry flavours. Absolutely delicious and good to go 5-7 years from vintage.

Rawson’s Retreat Cabernet Sauvignon is made from grapes grown across southeast Australia. The grapes selected for this wine showcase the typical cabernet characteristics of mint and blackcurrant alongside the firm but fine tannin structure for which the variety is renowned. This wine is fermented on skins to further develop the tannin profile and give structure to the elegant fruit. Once fermentation is complete, it undergoes oak maturation to add further complexity and balance. The dominance of American or French oak varies by vintage, as it is a choice the winemakers make once they have assessed the new wine. This elegant wine is well-matched to grilled and braised meats or pasta dishes.

Deep purple in colour. Classic aromas of lifted blackcurrant, blackberry and mint on the nose. Flavours follow through of sweet berry-fruit accented by fresh muddled mint. Elegant, structured palate with big velvety tannins.

This impressively ripe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels district in Hawke’s Bay, shows lifted aromas of cassis, dark plum, cigar and cedar, followed by a richly fruited and generous texture.

Rich aromas of dark fruit, bramble and brown spices. An array of flavours melded to one full-flavoured and extended palate that is packed full of berry fruit, dark chocolate and vanilla oak character. The wine has depth and richness driving a long finish supported by freshness and supple tannins. Once again an excellent combination of the Hogs Head signature easy going approachability and Cabernet Sauvignon definition and structure.

Planting their roots in the Barossa Valley in 1865, the Burge’s began as a family of devoted vignerons. For five generations, they spent their days toiling the lands, understanding the soil, and from it growing grapes that would become the most luxurious of wines. After years of working on the family’s vineyard, Meshach Burge, the eldest son, decided it was time to branch out and away from viticulture and into the world of agriculture.
