Syrah is fast becoming the star of the Hawke’s Bay wine scene and this Church Road Syrah has been absolutely nailing it over the last few years as one of the top Syrahs around under $20.

You might remember the 2015 vintage took out the “Best Red Wine Buy of the Year” in Michael Cooper’s Wine Buyers Guide for 2017 – other Syrah producers in the region must be seriously scratching their heads wondering how they do it at such a keen price! The ’16 made an appearance in Cuisine magazine’s 2018 Syrah tasting, scored 4 Stars & Best Buy. The 2017 made the shortlist again for Michael Cooper’s Best Red Wine Buy of the Year for 2019.

A silky, supple red with a touch of spice that will leave you grabbing a second glass in a flash! This is the style of red to be pairing with cuts of good old Kiwi lamb and game meats like duck and venison.

The nose of this wine displays good depth and complexity with bright berry fruit, violet and savoury pepper aromas. The palate features plum fruit, spice and wild herb notes, complemented by silky smooth tannins. This is a supple wine which displays sheer drinkability. Ideal with most red meats, game and a variety of cheeses.

1859 Shiraz 2012 Created in a contemporary style this Barossa Shiraz has notes of dark berries. The palate is rich with an excellent balance of fruit flavours, subtle tannins and a soft, silky finish. This vibrant and textural example of Barossa Shiraz is sourced from the exceptional 2012 vintage.
